Disclaimer: Do not assume that this is an attempt at selling these records. Admittedly, purchasing the particular album from the band, another band, or a small distro or record store is fine, but never forget that a key idea behind the punk/hardcore movement is separating “capital” from music. Lastly, I may have no taste in music, so be warned. Don’t laugh, you won’t seem serious.

Despite - the destroyers…will be destroyed 12”
Six Weeks Records

Buying this album was a no-fuckin’-brainer, at least after hearing Despite play only half an hour earlier. The album, of course, was no comparison to the live show, but what album is. It’s still an impressive album. Heavy hardcore with a glorious metal edge (and a double kick!) and thrash punk that has a fairly positive (for the name of the album) message. Very political and definitely poinant. Plus they’re from Wisconsin (around Kenosha). Excellent.

This is the A.L.F. – v/a CD
Mortarhate Records

I picked this beauty up when I was down in Chicago for the hardcore fest, and it is definitely cool as shit. It’s important to at least support, if not get involved with the cause of animal liberation (at least in my opinion) and this album actually can help. It comes with a 24 page booklet that helps explain the actions and different groups involved. It also contains 27 songs from bands like Conflict, Crass, Dirt, Icons of Filth, and the Subhumans, as well as having tracks from more difficult to find old peace punk like Liberty, Lost Cherrees, and Existance. In anycase, it’s a good album, and a great cause, so pick it up if you get the chance.

Detestation – s/t 12”
Re-release: Profane Existance/Skuld/Consensus Reality

This is amazing! Excellent anarcho-thrash in that magical Portland way. Songs about everything from anti-smoking in clubs, to punk rock bullshit attitudes, to the exploitation of indigenous peoples. Female fronted and brutally fast, this is one of those albums that doesn’t leave my record player for long.

Maneurism – Swallowed by Karma 7”
Power Ground records

Another fine record I picked recently. This band from Manitowoc, WI plays fast and tight hardcore with sampling before songs and a positive message. Highly recommended.

Autonomous Action – A//political/Couterpoise 7”
Autonomous Action Collective

Lets face it, I can’t get enough of A//political, and Counterpoise is another excellent anarcho/peace punk band. A//political has two songs on the A side, and Counterpoint a longer song on the B side. It’s also a benefit for the Autonomous Action collective in Maine (who, hopefully are still together). Worthwhile and highly intelligent!

Dropdead – s/t 7”
Crust Records

This is another one of my favorite records of all fucking time! Fast and angry hardcore thrash with lyrics dealing with animal liberation and equality, ecological matters (i.e., how about not destroying the planet?), and human ignorance. An amazing and blisteringly fast 7 inch.

Manhunt - Revenge volume one CD

These guys are from the Pennsylvania area. They play a harsh, emotional hardcore with heavy influences. Where as I don't often listen to this style of music, I was rather impressed. The songs tend to have a melodic to brutal quotient to them. The vocals by Ami, vary between a soft, calm style at times to a vicious, scathing scream/shriek that proves highly effective. Technically they're pretty fucking good as well. The CD contains five songs. Check them out at the link above. I look forward to hearing more from them.
